Travelodge’s Development Plans in Spain

Angel Beleño
Travelodge opened its first hotel in Madrid in 2004 and has since built a profitable and expanding presence in Spain. The Spanish business is led by Angel Beleno, General Director of Travelodge Spain, who oversees an experienced local management team. As of 2025, the business operates 14 hotels in key cities including Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Malaga, Valencia, Alicante and Murcia.
In 2024, Travelodge doubled its Spanish footprint with the acquisition of six hotels from Louvre Hotels Group. These properties are currently being updated to meet Travelodge’s premium brand design.
The company is targeting development opportunities in 20 key urban and regional markets across Spain, including Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Alicante, Bilbao, Malaga, Seville, Palma de Mallorca, and San Sebastián, among others.
This growth will be delivered through a mix of new-build developments, conversions of existing buildings, and going concern acquisitions, with a flexible approach to both freehold and leasehold structures.
Spain’s hotel market benefits from strong leisure and business demand. The midscale and economy segments are largely independently operated, with leasing being the most common business model – creating favourable conditions for branded operators such as Travelodge to expand.
To lead this expansion, Estanis Gómez of Aldaba Partners has been appointed Head of Development for Travelodge Hoteles España. Estanis is responsible for executing the brand’s development strategy and identifying new opportunities across the Spanish market.
