Scott Monument
Dominating the east end of Princes Street Gardens, this magnificent Gothic spire is dedicated to the beloved Scottish author Sir Walter Scott. It’s the largest monument to a writer in the world, which is a pretty cool claim to fame!
If you’re feeling energetic, you can climb the 287 winding steps to the very top. It’s quite the trek, but the reward is absolutely worth it – you’ll get phenomenal, close-up, panoramic views across Edinburgh, including the Castle, Old Town, and Princes Street Gardens.
Work up an appetite with the climb, then head back down to enjoy the sights of the city. It’s a cheap thrill and a wonderful way to get some perspective on your Edinburgh adventures.
