Take a trip to the Tudor era

Congleton is 20 miles south of Manchester, alongside the beautiful River Dane. Just a 10-minute drive from Congleton Station is one of the finest Tudor homes in the country, Little Moreton Hall. Don't let the name fool you, Little Moreton Hall isn't particularly small. The house, built between 1504 and 1610, was made to show off the Moreton family's wealth, and it certainly does the job. Look inside the hall, get lost in the gardens and enjoy a family-friendly trip through time.

From little to large at Astbury Mere Country Park

If Little Moreton Hall doesn't take your fancy, how about something larger? The brilliant Astbury Mere Country Park, found just 10 minutes from the centre of Congleton, takes up 14 hectares. The land was once a sand quarry, but today it's a beautiful park full of woodland paths, lakeside views and nature walks that anyone can enjoy. If you'd prefer something a bit more action-packed, hire a kayak and get on the lake.

Go behind the scenes at Beartown Brewery

Beartown Brewery, found close to Congleton Station, makes a great range of delicious beers. From the 'Bearly Literate' pale ale to the 'Black Bear' dark ruby ale, they have a lot to offer. If you're in Congleton, head to the brewery and enjoy one of their guided tours to see how their drinks are made, and find out the infamous bear-filled history of Congleton.
