Wander round Sandbach's cobbled market square

Elaborately carved Saxon Crosses in a cobbled square provide a central focus to this historic market town. English Heritage estimates they date from the 9th century. The market operates on Thursdays and Saturdays. A makers market runs on the second Saturday of the month offering local and hand crafted artisan products including food, drink, crafts, art and design.

Get back to nature

Spread over 9 acres, you can unwind while wandering through Sandbach Park and if you are lucky watch a bit of bowls being played. If you fancy a bit of activity you can use the outdoor gym or play table tennis. There is an area of wild park to encourage local flora and fauna to thrive. A bit further afield is Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve where you can go canoeing, angling and orienteering. Wildflower meadows, grassland, wetlands, heathland, a lake and woodland offer a variety of habitats, so whatever time of year there is always something to see.

Have a go on the potter's wheel

Get hands on with clay. The Potters Barn gives you the chance to make clay animals or paint pottery figures with the kids. You can even have a go on the potters wheel. Just get your creative imagination into gear. Weekend classes are also available in a wide range of crafts from longbow making to silversmithing and watercolour - a timetable runs through the year.
