A leafy hideaway outside the capital

Although it's a suburb of London, 'Ricky', as it's referred to by locals, feels more like a country retreat. It sits on the edge of the Chilterns, and is surrounded by chocolate box villages. The ace up Rickmansworth's sleeve is its excellent transport connections. Watford is 5 miles from the town, while Heathrow Airport and London are within easy reach. It has the added bonus of being on the Tube line.

Fun on the water

Water is a big theme in Rickmansworth. The Grand Union Canal runs through the town, and the Aquadrome nature reserve has lakes, lush green spaces, woodland walks, an abundance of wildlife and play areas to enjoy. Every May, the waterways play host to the Rickmansworth Festival when canal boats from all over the country moor up along the towpath to enjoy live music, a funfair and beer tent.

From football to footgolf

Vicarage Road, the home of Watford FC, is only 3 miles from the town. Whether you're cheering on the Hornets, or visiting as an away fan, get close to the action here. For football of a completely different kind, why not have a go at footgolf at Rickmansworth Golf Course? The idea is to kick a football from the tee-off area into a large hole in the fewest number of kicks possible. Looking for a cheap hotel Near Rickmansworth?
