Ware Priory: A French manor in the British countryside

The stunning Ware Priory in Hertfordshire dates back to 1338 and is set in seven acres of beautiful riverside gardens.

The magnificent white priory looks as though it's been picked from the French countryside and its cloister-style stained windows give it a sprinkle of the English classicism.

Swimming at Ware Lido

Lido, the Italian word for shore, refers to the bathing that once took place around the shores of Venice.

The public pool is heated, clean and well-supervised and for kids it makes an unusual change from practising their swimming technique in indoor leisure centres.

Space around the pool allows for families to sit and enjoy a picnic, as the kids bob in and out of the water - a great splash of a day out.

The history of Ware

Although small, the Ware Museum is well-formed, with a good collection of artefacts and some really interesting exhibitions - from prehistoric Ware to the WWII air raid shelter. It's all topped off with friendly staff.
