Fresh air and country sports at Bellshill

With famous musicians such as Sheena Easton and Sharlene Spiteri hailing from Bellshill it's respected on the indie music scene but another famous son is former Manchester United manager Sir Matt Busby, whose name graces the town's large sports complex with 25 metre swimming pool, health suite and gym. Keen golfers have plenty of options with a club in Bellshill itself and several more within easy distance, while at under ten minutes' drive away the popular Strathclyde Country Park is a must. Have fun on the loch with a variety of fun boats, and there's plenty to tempt experienced water sports enthusiasts too.

Head to stylish Glasgow

Bellshill's a perfect starting point for exploring Glasgow. It's Scotland's second city but arguably Britain's most stylish outside London and there's seriously good shopping here for fashion lovers. Wander the streets and admire the influence of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, who designed The Glasgow School of Art amongst other buildings. See more of his work at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, also home to some famous art including Impressionist paintings and Dali's highly charged Christ of St John of The Cross.

Mills heritage

Slightly further afield the award-winning New Lanark Visitor Centre is a highlight of the region - tour the historic mill village with its Utopian ideals and take a walk to the beautiful Falls of Clyde. Planning a trip to Bellshill? The Travelodge Glasgow Cumbernauld Hotel has great transport links or the Travelodge Stirling M80 is also handy for historic Stirling.
