The drama of Belvoir Castle

Belvoir Castle, with its Gothic revival turrets, towers and high walls, cuts an imposing figure on the Leicestershire landscape. The grounds - which include a Site of Special Scientific Interest in Briery Wood Heronry - are a wonderful place to visit, while the castle itself is simply magnificent, and open to the public. It's actually the fourth castle to be built on the site, this one replacing its 17th century predecessor after a fire. It dates back to the late 18th century, and remains home to the Manners family, who have lived there for over 500 years.

Experience an area rich in history

As well as the castle, the local area has a wealth of stately homes and gardens, including Nearby Belton House, Grimsthorpe Castle and Woolsthorpe Manor - the birthplace of Sir Isaac Newton. Grantham House is also worth a visit, as is Grantham Museum, which has exhibits focusing on the area's ancient and more recent history.
