Chepstow - not just for racegoers

The racecourse is what brings many people to Chepstow as it's a great day out for those fancying a flutter. But you'll also find a host of other brilliant attractions in the area. From majestic castles to romantic countryside walks, there's stacks to see and do around the gateway to Wales, while good transport links mean Bristol and Cardiff are within easy reach.

Visit historic Chepstow Castle and Tintern Abbey

Perched on cliffs above the River Wye, this stone-built castle was one of the first in Britain. It's been around since 1067, the year after the Battle of Hastings. Walk along the castle battlements and admire sweeping views from the top of the towers. Nearby Tintern Abbey is another historic site worth visiting. Walk among the atmospheric ruins and you'll soon realise why the famous medieval church has inspired so many poets and writers.

Explore the Wye Valley

Whether you're visiting in summer or winter, each season brings its own dramatic landscapes to the Wye Valley, which is dotted with picturesque towns and villages. Walk or cycle Offa's Dyke, the border between England and Wales, stopping off to refuel at a cosy inn along the way.
