Explore the Gothic grandeur of York Minster

With York's cathedral, York Minster, just opposite the campus, it's worth a trip to see the grandeur of the building. It's free to go into the lobby and take in the spectacle of the Gothic architecture and ornate decor.

For a fee, you can take a tour of the building, explore the Undercroft - a series of interactive chambers detailing the history of the cathedral - and climb the tower for spectacular views across York.

Ever wondered what it was like to be a Viking? At Jorvik Viking Centre, you can enjoy a full interactive experience learning all about life in the Viking world.

Board the ride experience and be transported back to 960 AD, before cruising through the museum's life-sized recreation of Viking Jorvik. Be warned, though - the museum has also recreated the smell, so you'll definitely need noseplugs.
