A cultural hub on the River Tyne

Located on the south bank of the Tyne, right next to the Millennium Bridge - making it convenient for travellers - the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art is a fine gallery with a history which belies its relatively young age. It only opened in 2002, but among its collections are works dating back much farther in time. It has a constantly changing line-up, with no permanent exhibitions, meaning it's always worth making a return visit.

Take in a show at the Sage

Within walking distance of the Baltic Centre is the Sage Gateshead, an international venue for performing arts which boasts a varied array of musical performances ranging from the more avant-garde, through classical shows to the massively popular rock and pop events.

Hit the Toon

Newcastle is conveniently just over the Millennium Bridge, and has a wealth of things to see and do. The Life Science Centre, Discovery Museum and BBC Newcastle Tour are just a few of the destinations which kids and adults alike will love. There's also an impressive range of restaurants on offer throughout the city. Planning a trip to the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art? Travelodge Newcastle Central Hotel is conveniently located just north of the river. Travelodge Gateshead Hotel lies just to the west, while Travelodge Newcastle Whitemare Pool Hotel is also close by.
