Art and history abound at Castleford

The historic market town of Castleford is situated on the edge of Wakefield, less than half an hour from the city centre. Once a Roman settlement, the history of Castleford is told at the local museum and library. Visit to see a collection of artefacts including an Iron Age chariot, and admire the work of internationally-acclaimed artist and former local resident Henry Moore at the dedicated exhibition. The high street is lined with boutiques and independent stores, while Nearby Junction 32 Outlet Shopping Village is the perfect place to hunt for a bargain.

Xscape: The region's best adventure venue

For a fun-packed day (and night) of action, head to Xscape Yorkshire, the region's biggest attraction for all things adventurous. Learn to snowboard down the centre's ski slope, test your nerves on the 47-foot Skyride and climbing tower, and bounce your way around Gravity, a wall-to-wall trampoline room. If you're not the adventurous type, there's also a bowling alley, giant cinema, volcano-themed golf course, and plenty of shops and restaurants to keep you busy.

Fun for the kids at Diggerland

Ever wanted to ride a digger? You can do just that at Diggerland, the construction-themed theme park for kids and adults alike. With 20 different rides, including go-karts and dodgems, as well as a collection of JCBs and excavators to try for yourself, it's a great way to spend a day. Looking for accommodation in Castleford?
