Surprise your Partner with a Trip to Spain this Valentine’s day

iStock_valenciaIf passion is what you’re looking for this Valentine’s Day, look no further than hot blooded, heady and seductive Spain. Stunning scenery, beautiful historic buildings, great hotels, tantalising cuisine and, of course, the language of love itself combine to make Spain a fantastic location for a romantic getaway. A world away from the usual box of chocs and ‘rose for the lady’ in the local restaurant that we might be used to!

So why not try something different this year and book a break at one of our hotels in Spain? Here’s a peek at what’s on offer in some of its most romantic cities:

Romantic plans in Valencia

The birthplace of paella, Valencia is a vibrant mix of modern and historic architecture, art galleries, exciting nightlife, romantic sunsets and, of course, the most delicious paella dishes – even better when washed down with a jug of sangria! Book into our Valencia hotel and explore everything the city has to offer from this affordable base.

The perfect place for a romantic picnic is Jardines del Real. Grab a blanket, a bottle of champagne and some goodies from the food hall at El Corte Ingles and make the most of the February sunshine while you watch the world go by. Or perhaps take a boat ride by sunset from the harbour – or on one of the lakes a little inland from the city, if that’s more your style.

Romantic plans in Barcelona

iStock_barcelonaSpain’s most cosmopolitan city, Barcelona, is simply amazing. You’ll find astonishing architecture and impressive works of art, both in the galleries and on the streets themselves, thanks to Gaudi’s famous spectacles throughout the city. The breathtaking Sagrada Familia cathedral is truly stunning, and still a work in progress nearly 90 years after the famous architect’s death! You’ll also want to wander up the Passieg de Gracia to see his fairytale-esque works of art and architecture, Casa Batllo and Casa Mila – or maybe even head to the Gaudi playground, Parc Guell, for a romantic picnic for two high up on a hillside overlooking the city?

While in Barcelona you’ll also want to sample the world renowned tapas. Try Quimet Quimet on the Carrer del Poeta Cabanyes – it’s so good they named it twice! You’re also sure to happen upon some amazing little places as you explore the labyrinthine backstreets of the city – an afternoon wandering the Gothic Quarter hand in hand is a must – and part of the fun is discovering your new favourite place for a glass of cava and a feast of tasty traditional bites to share.

You simply cannot miss the Magic Fountains of Monjuic while in Barcelona. These magical fountains come alive at night with music and lighting as they put on a show you will never forget. Watch the display then take a moonlit stroll back to your hotel, perhaps stopping for some churros y chocolate along the way. These delicious strips of doughnut are fantastic dipped in chocolate, or rolled in cinnamon sugar, and being willing to share a bag is a sure sign of true love!

Barcelona is a sightseers’ paradise, and at the end of each busy day you’ll want to relax in a comfortable hotel. Our Barcelona Hotels, the Travelodge Poblenou and the Travelodge Hospitalet  have double, twin and family rooms available at bargain prices – so you can enjoy a break in one of Spain’s finest cities without breaking the bank!

Romantic plans in Madrid

The capital of Spain and a city that has an undeniable buzz about it, Madrid is begging to be explored with your valentine. Romance is rife in the beautiful parks and gardens dotted throughout the city, so why not escape the hustle and bustle and into your own little world among the statues, fountains and plants before heading off for a romantic lunch in one of the hip cafés in Plaza Major?

A great night out in Madrid is dinner at the luxurious Casino de Madrid, before joining the high rollers and trying your luck on the tables. You’ll feel like royalty as you rub shoulders with Madrid’s elite. Then head back to one of our hotels in Madrid (Alcala and Torrelaguna) for a romantic night for two.

Wherever you choose to spend your romantic break in Spain, your Valentine won’t be the only one you fall in love with. Once you’ve spent time in this passionate country, you’re sure to be smitten and desperate to return!
