21st December 2006

Today, Watford FCs star striker, Marlon King and the Mayor of Watford, Councilor Dorothy Thornhill officially opened the newlybuilt Watford Central Travelodge. The 93-room hotel is a £3.7 million investment for the town and was built in a record time to ensure it was ready to open for Christmas.

Situated in the heart of the town centre at 23-25 Market Street, Watford, WD18 0PD, the new hotel has created 30 new jobs within the community and will offer rooms from £15.

To celebrate the official opening, Watford Central Travelodge offered year nine pupils at Stanborough Secondary school the opportunity of a lifetime, which was to take part in a school project that would ultimately benefit the local community. The brief was to design a piece of public art representing what Watford means to them.

The Mayor of Watford, Councilor Dorothy Thornhill selected the winning design, which was drawn by Paul Longman and Terrance Holness-Right both aged 14 years. Paul and Terrance won a weekend break at any UK Travelodge hotel of their choice for their families.

The artwork is now displayed on an exterior wall of the newly-built Travelodge hotel for the general public to view. The Mayor of Watford, Councilor Dorothy Thornhill unveiled Watford Centrals mural at the official opening event.

The Mayor of Watford, Councilor Dorothy Thornhill, said: I'm delighted to be a part of the official opening of Watford Central Travelodge. This newly-built hotel is the missing piece of Watford's jig saw, we desperately need low-cost accommodation in the centre of the town and now we have it. I wish the new hotel the best of luck for the future."

Lesley Munro, Watford Central Travelodge's Manager, said: "There is high demand for low-cost accommodation within Watford and our new Travelodge hotel will help to fill this need. Our central location is minutes away from Watford Junction railway station and adjacent to the ring road which is ideal for business and leisure travellers who need quick access to Watford and London. Local residents can also benefit by accommodating family and friends at the hotel to avoid the additional stress at home, which is ideal for the festive season ahead. We offer a comfortable room from as little as £15, which is the smart choice for any type of stopover."

Watford Central Travelodge will offer a choice of either Family, Double or Disabled rooms. Each room provides a comfortable setting with en-suite bathroom, luxury king size bed, colour TV and free tea and coffee making facilities.

The new hotel also has a Bar Cafe, which offers an all you can eat breakfast buffet at £6.50 per person. (Children under the age of 10 years eat for free) Evening meals and a bar service is available in the evenings from 5.30pm to 10.30pm.

In the leadup to Christmas, Travelodge is opening 17 new hotels across the UK. Locations include: Peterborough, Caterham, Romford, Barnstaple, Stansted, Ludlow, Hatfield, Kendal, Birmingham Maypole, Ayr, Manchester Trafford Park, Hereford, Croydon, Sheffield, Birmingham Five Ways and Camberley. Over 400 new jobs will be created as a result of these new hotel openings.
