Today, David Stanley Farmer, the Mayor of Shrewsbury and Atcham, officially opened the 276th Travelodge hotel on Battlefield Road, Shrewsbury.
The 41-bedroom hotel is the second Travelodge hotel to open within Shrewsbury, following on from the success of Shrewsbury Bayston Hill Travelodge. The new hotel has cost over £2 million to build and has created 20 new jobs within the community.

Travelodge, the UK's number one budget hotel brand will offer rooms from as little as £26 per night at Shrewsbury Battlefield Travelodge. There is a choice of either a double, family or disabled room, each offering a comfortable setting with en-suite bathroom, luxury king size bed, colour TV with in room entertainment which offers pay on demand movies, telephone and Internet services and free tea and coffee making facilities. Free on site car parking is also provided for guests.

David Stanley Farmer, the Mayor of Shrewsbury and Atcham said: "Congratulations to Travelodge, this hotel is what we have needed on the north side of town for many years. It will complement the industry that is within the area. I am extremely pleased to see the company has catered for the disabled and the facilities I have viewed are outstanding. Travelodge should be congratulated for delivering an excellent service at a low rate".

Astra Goode, Shrewsbury Battlefield Travelodge Hotel Manager said: "We are very excited about opening a second Travelodge hotel in Shrewsbury, demand is very high within this area for low-cost accommodation. We have had nearly 100% occupancy since opening. Business / leisure visitors to Shrewsbury and local residents who have visiting family and friends just want a clean comfortable room at a low cost, which is just what we offer".

Travelodge has recently launched a revolutionary search tool facility on its website www.travelodge.co.uk which provides clarity on identifying all available rooms within the UK at the low-cost rate of £26 and £46*(Central London). This new search service will allow customers to find all Travelodge hotels that have a £26 / £46 room rate at a glance; and if their preferred hotel is not available at this particular rate, at the time they would like to travel, up to twenty nearest hotel options will be provided at the same rate.

Over the next six years Travelodge is planning to open 15,000 new rooms and create over 4,500 new jobs. In 2005, Travelodge is opening a new hotel every ten days and has the biggest expansion programme in place within the UK budget hotel sector. Travelodge has also completed a £20 million refurbishment for all of its hotels within the UK.
