Travelodge Comes To Peckham

 

Peckham Travelodge is the first branded hotel to open in Peckham - the home of UK’s most successful sitcom to date, Only Fools & Horses  

 

Peckham Travelodge is the group’s 597th hotel and it’s 80th hotel in London. The group is also currently searching for a further 127 hotel sites across London.

 

To celebrate Travelodge coming to Peckham, the group paid homage to the nation’s all time favourite sitcom and conducted a study on Only Fools and Horses   



Travelodge, one of the UK’s largest hotel chains, has opened the first branded hotel in Peckham, London, home of the nation’s all time favourite sitcom, Only Fools & Horses. Peckham Travelodge is the group’s 597th hotel and its 80th hotel in London - making it one of London’s biggest hotel chains.  

 

This hotel is one of three Travelodge hotels the group intends to open in London this year. The other two Travelodge hotels are situated at the iconic Oval Cricket Ground and Beckenham - which has been voted as one of the best places to live in London.

 

The capital is also a key growth area for the UK’s first budget hotel chain as Travelodge is currently searching for a further 127 hotel sites across London. This expansion programme would more than double Travelodge’s presence in London and could represent an investment of nearly £3 billion for third party investors and create over 6,000 new jobs.

 

London Peckham Travelodge is situated on Peckham High Street, home of the nation's all time favourite sitcom, Only Fools and Horses.  Peckham High Street,  in the programme featured Del Boy’s home, The Nelson Mandela House, favourite pub, restaurant and cafe -  The Nags Head, The Star of Bengal and Sid’s Cafe known as the The Fatty Thumb.

 

London Peckham Travelodge, a 52-room hotel was officially opened by the Mayor of Peckham, and has created around 20 new jobs within the community.  Rooms are available from £55 - book at www.travelodge.co.uk  

 

To celebrate Travelodge opening the first branded hotel in Peckham, it has paid homage to one of Britain’s most successful sitcoms which has made David Jason (Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter) and Nicholas Lyndhurst (Rodney Trotter) household names by conducting an Only Fools & Horse Study.  

 

Key findings from the study which surveyed 2,000 British adults revealed that 73% of Britons still love to watch Only Fools and Horses today. Over half, 54% of respondents stated that the sitcom makes them laugh out loud, and it is their ‘go to’ programme to make them happy.

 

Interestingly three three quarters of respondents knew that Only Fools and Horses was set in London Peckham

 

Over a third, 34% of Britons reported that Only Fools and Horses is a national treasure and is one of Britain’s most iconic TV programmes to date. 

 

Over half, 58% of Britons stated that Only Fools and Horses is ageless and is still relatable in today’s modern world.

 

Over half 55% of adults reported that they will watch an episode of Only Fools and Horses before bedtime to help them relax.   

 

The nation voted Del Boy as their favourite character from the sitcom, followed by Trigger and then Rodney Trotter. Uncle Albert was voted the fourth favourite character and Grandad took fifth position.   

 

The study also revealed the nation’s top ten all time favourite Only Fools and Horses scenes / episodes.  In number one position was the scene when Del Boy fell through the bar in ‘Yuppy Love’. This was the first episode in the sixth series first aired on the 8th January 1989 with a viewing figure of 14 million.   

 

Del Boy and Rodney smashing a chandler in a ‘Touch of Glass’ takes second place. This episode first aired in 1982, it was the last episode of series two and it was the first episode of the show to attract over 10 million viewers. 

 

The third place in the nation’s top Only Fools and Horses scenes is when Del Boy and Rodney are dressed up as Batman and Robin in the episode titled - Heroes and Villains. This episode was the 13th Christmas special episode and was first broadcast on 25th December 1996 and attracted a UK television audience of 21.3 million viewers - at the time a record for the show.

 

The final episode of the 1996 Christmas Trilogy, ‘Time on our Hands’ wins fourth place in the nation’s top ten favourite Only Fools and Horses episodes poll. In this episode, the Trotters finally become millionaires after auctioning a watch. This episode attracted a television audience of 24.3 million, a record for a British sitcom.

 

In fifth place was the ‘Danger UXD’ episode which aired 15th January and attracted 16 million viewers. In this episode, Delboy acquires a batch of faulty sex dolls, which have inadvertently been filled with an explosive gas. The scene in question was when one of the blow up dolls inflates by itself, which causes Del Boy, Rodney, and Uncle Albert to leave the room in a panic.

Interestingly our findings revealed that the 80’s sitcom is still as popular today. London Peckham Travelodge offers a range of rooms including: family, double and accessible rooms. All rooms feature the bespoke luxurious king-size Travelodge Dreamer bed which is produced by Sleepeezee. The Travelodge Dreamer bed sits within a mood lighting surround and has spacious bedside shelves featuring his & hers charging ports. In addition all family rooms will include two individual beds for children. 

 

The rooms also feature a modern en-suite bathroom, power shower, comfort cooling to enable you to personalise the temperature of your room, a 32 inch Freeview TV, complimentary in-room tea & coffee making facilities and access to Wifi. 

 

London Peckham Travelodge is managed by Fellipe Rodrigues, who joined Travelodge in 2019. Fellipe started his career working at London Kings Cross Royal Scot Travelodge in the Bar Cafe, where he progressed to the role of F&B Supervisor. He was then promoted to Assistant Hotel Manager at the newly opened London Lewisham Travelodge and has now got his first Hotel Manager position at London Peckham Travelodge.
