TRAVELODGE OPENS ITS THIRD HOTEL IN BATH AND BECOMES THE LARGEST HOTEL CHAIN IN THE CITY AND BRINGS ITS NEW SUPERROOM AT BATH WATERSIDE TRAVELODGE

Travelodge also announces future growth plans in Somerset and is looking for hotel sites in Minehead, Taunton Centre, Yeovil and Weston-Super-Mare (seafront).  This investment will create approximately 100 jobs and represents an investment of £32 million for third party investors

Today, Travelodge, Bath’s first budget hotel brand, opens its third hotel in Bath and becomes the city’s largest hotel chain.  Bath City Centre (Bath Spa) Travelodge, a 56-room hotel represents an investment of £12 million for the landlord and has created 20 new jobs. It is situated in the historic Westgate building in the heart of the city centre.

The hotel chain also announces today that it has completed a £2 million modernisation make-over at its 125-room, Bath Waterside Travelodge hotel. The new look upgraded hotel now features 30 SuperRooms, the company’s new premium economy room offering, 95 enhanced Travelodgical rooms and a new look Bar Café.

Travelodge launched its SuperRoom concept earlier this year - bringing the ‘premium economy’ concept familiar to airline users to the UK budget hotel market. Bath Waterside Travelodge is the first hotel outside of London to feature SuperRooms.

This new class of room, the first of its kind in the UK budget hotel market, dials up the comfort factor with a concept designed especially for business and leisure customers who want the extra choice of a more premium room.

The stylish SuperRoom has everything that you would expect from Travelodge but with lots of new additional creature comforts.  It has been styled in a modern residential décor scheme, creating a ‘home from home’ feel. It features a new dream-light colour scheme which includes tones of calming blue, warm beige and tranquil taupe, as well as blackout curtains, creating a relaxing atmosphere for a restful night’s sleep.  (See notes to editors for further details on SuperRooms).

Bath City Centre (Bath Spa) Travelodge is the company’s 552nd hotel and its 13th hotel in the county of Somerset.

The hotel features the company’s new ‘Travelodgical’ contemporary room which has been designed by business and leisure customers. The upgraded room features the bespoke luxurious king size Travelodge Dreamer bed with ambient lighting surround and USB charging points. The room also features new softer LED ceiling lighting to give the room a warmer feel, a comfort cooling system, a Samsung 32 inch digital television, free tea & coffee making facilities and Wifi. Rooms are available from £29 and can be booked at: www.travelodge.co.uk

The new Bath City Centre hotel is being managed by John O’ Brien who joined Travelodge a year ago as the Assistant Hotel Manager at Bath Waterside Travelodge. John’s team of 20 staff members have all been recruited locally.

Huw Huckridge, Travelodge District Manager for Wiltshire said: “This year we are celebrating 18 years of trading in Bath and we are thrilled to celebrate this milestone with a hat trick of firsts.  Today we open our third hotel in Bath, become the largest hotel chain in the city and launch our new SuperRooms at Bath Waterside Travelodge, the first hotel outside of London to feature this premium economy room.”

Huw continues: “As we look to the future, Somerset is a key growth area for Travelodge. The local economy is growing at pace and with increasing visitor numbers to the area there is a big shortage of good quality and great value accommodation to meet customer demand.  Therefore Travelodge is looking to expand its portfolio with a further four hotels across the county. This investment will create approximately 100 jobs and represent an investment of £32 million for third party investors.  The four locations include: Minehead, Taunton Centre, Yeovil and Weston-Super-Mare (seafront).

The Right Worshipful The Mayor of Bath (Councillor Ian Gilchrist) says, "I am delighted that Travelodge keeps on investing in the City of Bath, opening today its third hotel and in such a prime location. It is important for us that the City is able to offer a wide choice of visitor accommodation, and of course we welcome the fact that there will be even more jobs."

John O’Brien, Bath City Centre (Bath Spa) Travelodge Hotel Manager said:

“The demand for good quality accommodation at a great value price in Bath is growing at pace with rising visitor numbers to the city. Therefore we are very excited to have hotels in all the key points across the city centre now.”

“Our Bath City Centre (Bath Spa) Travelodge has got off to a flying start. We worked around the clock to get the hotel open in time for the influx of Christmas market visitors.

We are literally booked out for the festive season, which is great news for the local economy, as our research shows annually Travelodge customers will spend £2 million with local businesses during their stay.”
