7th June 2021

Travelodge, the UK’s first budget hotel chain, announces it is officially opening seven new hotels today across the UK. These seven properties are part of the 17 hotels the group announced earlier this year that it expects to open in 2021.

Today’s seven hotel openings represent an approximate investment value of £70 million for third party investors and have   created nearly 150 new jobs. Locations include: Boston, Bristol (2 hotels), Faringdon, Poole, St Albans and Witney. These   seven new hotels will boost Travelodge’s operational portfolio to 592 hotels across the UK, Ireland and Spain.

Today’s announcement also celebrates Travelodge expanding its network and taking the brand into four new growing markets. This includes the group opening its first hotel in Boston, Faringdon, St Albans and Witney.

The group is also opening its 12th Travelodge Plus hotel today in St Albans, which is the company’s first hotel in the city. Travelodge Plus is the group’s ‘budget chic’ hotel format. Launched in 2018, this concept is designed around the needs of the budget traveller who wants that little bit more style and choice with little touches to make it easier to work and relax both inside and outside the room.

In addition, in response to strong consumer demand, Travelodge is also opening four hotels today that feature its SuperRoom product. This includes two hotels in Bristol, Faringdon and St Albans. This will boost the group’s stock to over 2,000 SuperRooms collectively across 55 hotels. The SuperRoom, is the group’s premium economy room-type and was the first of its kind to be launched in the UK budget hotel market in 2017. It dials up the comfort factor and is designed for customers who want the choice of a more premium room.

Travelodge also continues to grow and extend its on-site restaurant business with four of today’s new openings featuring the company’s Bar Café concept. These new additions will boost the group’s portfolio to nearly 200 hotels now featuring a Bar Café.

Craig Bonnar, Travelodge Chief Executive said:

“We are delighted to mark the start of the summer holiday season by extending our UK hotel network by officially opening seven new hotels in one day and taking the Travelodge brand to four new markets. These seven new properties not only extend our UK network to 578 hotels but also offer even more great value choice to business and leisure customers whilst playing a pivotal role in supporting local economies. With more Britons holidaying on British shores this year, we are well placed to support the nation with their Staycation breaks by having hotels in the right locations at a great value price.”

Travelodge announced earlier this year that it expects to open 17 hotels this year and to date the group has opened 12 of these hotels including today’s seven hotel openings.

These 17 new hotels are being developed by third party investors with an approximate investment value of £175 million and will collectively create more than 360 jobs.

The group expects to open the remaining five hotels later this year. This includes three hotels in London, at: Elephant & Castle, Manor House and Peckham plus hotels in Sandwich and Walton on Thames.
