Prestwick - more than just an airport

Lying on the Ayrshire coast to the south-west of Glasgow, Prestwick is notable for being visited by two very different 'kings' - Robert the Bruce and Elvis Presley. Its international airport is what brings many people to the town (Elvis included), but you don't have to jet off abroad to find great days out. There are plenty of adventures to be had closer to home.

A golfer's paradise

You're spoilt for choice for fantastic golf courses in this part of the world. Prestwick old course held the very first Open Championship back in 1860. You can also tee off at the St Cuthbert and St Nicholas clubs. Current championship course Royal Troon is also just up the coast, so you can tread the illustrious path of former Open winners Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson and Henrik Stenson.

Birthplace of the Scottish bard

Just beyond Prestwick's neighbouring town of Ayr is the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum and cottage where he was born. See some of the legendary poet's personal belongings and original manuscripts, before tucking into haggis, neeps and tatties in the museum cafe. Looking for a cheap hotel Near Prestwick?
