Go posh in well-heeled Prestbury

See if you can spot any of the famed footballers who live in the pretty Cheshire village of Prestbury - some big names have bought homes here. Dubbed Britain's poshest village, it's well worth a trip to admire the large numbers of historic and listed buildings within the conservation area. To soak up the atmosphere head to St Peter's Church, one of the oldest parish churches in the country and much admired for its beauty and peace.

Tune in to Manchester

Manchester, the north's unofficial capital of cool, is only half an hour away. Admire the art at the Whitworth Art Gallery then head to the Quays development on the waterfront for cafes and other attractions. Manchester has a thumping night scene and there are lots of bars and clubs. From September to December the Manchester Warehouse Project is a hot ticket. If it's shopping you're after, the intu Trafford Centre is a must-visit. With more than 1,000 retailers, parking for 11,500 cars, Europe's largest food court plus LEGOLAND Discovery Centre, SEA LIFE Manchester and the ski slopes at Chill Factore, you'd be hard pushed to get bored.

Explore the Peaks

Prestbury borders the stunning Peak District. Enjoy the opera at beautiful Buxton only half an hour away or enjoy the lush scenery at the National Trust's Lyme Park Nearby.
