History, beaches, scenery - Helston has got it all

Helston in Cornwall is Britain's most southerly town and situated on the Lizard Peninsula, around 15 minutes from the coast. Visit in May and you may catch the famous Flora Day dance, but there's lots to see all year too. Head to Flambards Theme Park for thrilling rides and more; sample a Cornish pasty and enjoy the local brew, Spingo, at the Blue Anchor. Go for a stroll in the neighbouring Penrose Estate, run by the National Trust, and pay a visit the Nearby Cornish Seal Sanctuary.

Surf's up! The best local beaches

At Helston you're only 15 minutes' drive from some stunning beaches. Poldhu Cove is sandy and has surf, Gunwalloe is rich in wildlife and there's also Praa Sands which is great for young ones splashing in the shallows or more adventurous types who want to catch some waves. Drive for half an hour and you'll get to the gorgeous Kynance Cove with its turquoise waters, and while you're there don't miss a trip to the Nearby Lizard Peninsula.
