Darley Dale - gateway to the Peak District

Conveniently located on the A6 between Bakewell and Matlock, this charming village is a hidden gem on the edge of the Peak District in Derbyshire.

The parish church has an impressive Norman font and an ancient yew tree in the grounds, said to be over 2,000 years old. The Whitworth Centre and Park was founded by Sir Joseph Whitworth, a local industrialist and benefactor. It hosts all sorts of events, from 5K runs and markets to fireworks and Christmas carols.

Full steam ahead on Peak Rail

Enjoy a nostalgic train ride through the Derbyshire countryside on this preserved railway that runs between Matlock and Rowsley. Jump on board at the station in Darley Dale.

Steam services run throughout the year, and there are various themed events, including Easter treasure hunts and Santa specials. Food-wise, you can enjoy a leisurely Sunday lunch or afternoon tea on board the Palatine Restaurant car.

Gulliver's Kingdom is a theme park designed for smaller kids, with over 60 rides and attractions. From Western World to pirate theme rides, it's suitable for little ones as young as two.

Also at Matlock are the spectacular caverns at the Heights of Abraham, set in 60 acres of woodland. Reach them on an awesome cable car ride over a deep limestone gorge.
