Exploring Essex from Chelmsford Railway Station

Chelmsford Railway Station is on the Great Eastern Main Line with services to London taking just over half an hour. Trains are run by Greater Anglia, which also operates services to destinations in eastern England such as Norwich and Ipswich. The station has shops where you can grab a paper and a coffee, with the car park having 122 spaces and a reasonable daily rate. From here you can explore Essex's many delights by car. The renowned picture-postcard village of Thaxted is under 40 minutes' drive away, with Maldon and the Blackwater Estuary also Nearby.

Discovering Chelmsford

Essex's only city, Chelmsford has lots to offer visitors with great shopping, lovely green spaces and many other attractions. The cathedral is well worth a look, with its pretty ceiling, then head to Chelmsford Museum which is free to enter and has interactive displays that kids will enjoy and a fine military collection. Oaklands Park, also on site, is good for a wander. Chelmsford has two shopping centres, High Chelmer and Meadows, to keep shopaholics happy, and there's a recent retail development around the city's Bond Street with lots of shops and eateries.

A day at the races

Chelmsford City Racecourse has one of only five floodlit all-weather tracks in the country. Have a flutter on the horses or enjoy a night to remember at one of the racecourse's music events.
