Visit the Jewel in the Vale

Voted one of the best places to live in Wales, the bustling town of Cowbridge is settled in the Vale of Glamorgan, seven miles from Cardiff. Its higgledy-piggledy high street and traditional pubs make the town the perfect place to escape for a few days. As well as being so close to Cardiff, Cowbridge sits just north of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, so you can enjoy fresh seaside air and stunning views on your doorstep. It's no wonder Cowbridge is known as the Jewel in the Vale.

Explore Cowbridge's hidden treasures

Hidden behind an old stone wall in the centre of Cowbridge, the Physic Garden is what remains of the 18th century Old Hall Gardens. This small but stunning garden is home to an array of flowers and plants used for their medicinal powers, cooking and dyeing clothes. Further out of the town, the ruins of the stunning Beaupre Castle, a former medieval manor house, are worth exploring - at your own risk. They're said to be haunted by a banshee-like ghost called the gwrach y rhibyn.
