A suburban town with character

Nestled between Bromley and Croydon, this popular commuter town is the ideal place to settle while you're exploring south London. The town's charm comes from its leafy streets and Victorian character, but there's lots to explore here, too. The high street is packed with quirky individual shops, and you're bound to find a pub or two by wandering down the side roads.

Explore the late, great Crystal Palace

While the original Crystal Palace burned down in 1936, the Crystal Palace Museum just outside of Beckenham aims to keep the magnificent exhibiton hall's memory alive. Ideal for architecture enthusiasts, the museum displays models of the original Crystal Palaces, as well as remnants and mosaics from the ruins of the magnificent buildings.

Delve deep into the psyche at the Museum of the Mind

Head down to Croydon for a fascinating insight into the lives of mental patients. Bethlem Royal Hospital is home to the Museum of the Mind, which charts the history of mental illness and its treatment through the ages. This incredible museum even displays artworks, sculptures and diary entries from patients at the hospital to help give insight into the minds of the people who lived there. Looking for accommodation in Beckenham? The town has two great value hotels within easy reach of the centre. Book a room at our Crystal Palace or Bromley hotels, both ideally situated to explore wider south London.
