Ham-ming it up

Although not as famous as its leafy neighbours Richmond and Twickenham, Ham in south west London has plenty to recommend it. Less than 10 miles from the capital's centre, it's located on the banks of the Thames. There's a pleasant walk to be had along the Thames Path, a National Trail that runs through the suburb, while local pubs and restaurants are popular with both locals and visitors.

Historic Ham

History is never far away in Ham. It has its own impressive 17th century mansion, Ham House, which is described by the National Trust as unique in Europe as the most complete survival of 17th century fashion and power; it's also open to the public. Nearby Twickenham also boasts the gothic revival Strawberry Hill House, while Richmond features numerous impressive buildings.

Sample the delights of London's museums

While at Ham, hop on a train at Twickenham or Richmond and travel to Kensington, where many of London's best museums, including the Natural History, Science and Victoria & Albert, are located. There really is something to cater for everyone's interests here.
