Highams Park - a Victorian idyll
Less than nine miles north of central London is the district of Highams Park Near Walthamstow. Primarily a residential area consisting mostly of Victorian housing, it's also close to Tottenham Hotspur's football ground at White Hart Lane, while the park from which it takes its name has little in the way of facilities, but nevertheless provides a rural escape for walkers, joggers and families.
Catch up with culture at Highams Park
Culture vultures will no doubt swoop on an opportunity to sample the delights of the William Morris Gallery, which is a short hop from Highams Park on Forest Road in Walthamstow, in what was the arts and crafts designer's home from 1848 to 1856. The building itself is well worth a look; it's a Grade II* listed Georgian property set in Lloyd Park. Also worth a look is Bruce Castle Museum, a 16th-century manor house with art and exhibits retelling Haringey's history.
