North Middlesex Hospital: Steeped in history

Opened in 1955, the North Middlesex Hospital is based in Edmonton, just off the North Circular Road.

What was initially a workhouse in 1840, the first version of a hospital on this site launched in 1910 to service hundreds of workers. Amid rising poverty, illness levels were also on the up, and in 1907 a committee was formed to develop a hospital on site, separated by just an iron fence. Of the original structure, only the shared iron gate still stands today.

The new White Hart Lane

The iconic home ground of Tottenham Hotspur FC - just a mile away from North Middlesex Hospital - was demolished in 2017, with a new, 750m stadium built in its ashes. The all-new 61,000-seater ground will boast a retractable pitch able to cater for up to 16 non-football-related events a year, including NFL games and music concerts.

Explore the surroundings

There are various green spaces in the area around the hospital and Nearby Pymmes Park is a site of archaeological importance with a lake, children's play area, tennis court and bowling green.
