Take a selfie with Churchill in Woodford Green

Sitting pretty in north-east London, leafy Woodford Green has plenty of open green space to enjoy, surrounded by woodland and lakes, and on the doorstep of the magnificent Epping Forest.

Don't miss the statue of Winston Churchill on the corner of the green. He was MP for Woodford from 1945 to 1964. Pose alongside the great wartime leader for a photo.

Wine buffs should make a beeline for Woodford Wine Room. It specialises in artisan Italian varieties, and even sells wine from a barrel, so you can bring your own bottle to fill up.

Sheesh Restaurant in Nearby Chigwell offers delicious Middle Eastern-style cuisine in a stunning Grade I listed building. You can spend your whole evening here, as there's a cocktail bar with live music for pre or post-dinner drinks.

Enjoy the great outdoors in Epping Forest

Steeped in history, this ancient forest is a must-see if you're visiting the area. As well as stretching your legs on a long walk, you can take a boat out on the lake, see Queen Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge and inspect the remains of two large Iron Age earthworks at Loughton Camp and Ambresbury Banks.
