A riverside setting in Bishop's Stortford

This medieval market town is a great base for exploring everything that east Hertfordshire has to offer. Running through the town is the River Stort, which you can walk along to the Castle Gardens Park. Here you'll find a play area, tennis courts and the Waytemore Castle mound.

Another of the town's highlights is the Rhodes Arts Complex, a vibrant entertainment venue with cinema, theatre and cafe. Next door is Bishop's Stortford Museum, where you can learn about British imperialist Cecil Rhodes, who was born in the town.

Be inspired at the Henry Moore Foundation

A few miles outside Bishop's Stortford is one of the UK's top art destinations. More than 70 acres of gardens and countryside showcase the sculptor's amazing work.

You can take a tour of the Moore family's home, and go behind the scenes at the artist's studios to see how his sculptures were created. Check the opening times before you visit as the foundation isn't open every day.

Take a trip down memory lane at House on the Hill

You'll be hit by a wave of nostalgia as you tour this impressive toy museum, packed to the rafters with dolls, teddies, board games, train sets and robots. The owner's massive collection includes everything from Barbie and Ken to Kerplunk and Buckaroo.
