The great outdoors in Fort William

Known as the UK's outdoor capital, Fort William is the perfect base for keen walkers, adventurers and sports enthusiasts.

It lies on the shores of Loch Linnhe, and is close to Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK. The 96-mile West Highland Way, the most popular long-distance walk in Scotland, also ends in the town. If you want gorgeous scenery, you'll get it in spades here.

Take in the natural beauty of Glen Nevis

Lying at the foot of Ben Nevis, this Highland glen is one of the most beautiful in Scotland. We recommend walking through the gorge to Steall falls, where water cascades over the deep rock pools.

The Nevis Range snowsports and mountain biking centre is one of Fort William's main attractions. A gondola takes you 2,000ft up the mountain for jaw-dropping views and access to the ski slopes.

All aboard the Jacobite Steam Train

Instantly recognisable as the Hogwarts Express from the Harry Potter films, the Jacobite Steam Train puffs across the famous Glenfinnan viaduct. Also along the journey, it visits Britain's most westerly mainland railway station Arisaig, and passes the country's deepest freshwater lake, Loch Morar.
