Moving military history at Imperial War Museum London

The Imperial War Museum in London's Lambeth is a few minutes from Waterloo station and an easy walk from some of the city's best-loved attractions. The museum started life in 1917 before the end of the First World War, and now has four other branches across the country including the Churchill War Rooms in Westminster. With free entry, walk beneath the Harrier jet and Spitfire suspended in the atrium, and be enriched by the comprehensive exhibits covering wars past and present.

For breath-taking views of the capital take a trip on The London Eye, a 5-minute stroll away. The Sea Life Aquarium is in next door County Hall, or if your tastes are a little more gruesome try The London Dungeon which unveils the darker side of the city. Tate Modern London in the former Bankside Power Station is free to enter - apart from temporary exhibitions - and houses works by Picasso and Dali. Theatre and music lovers are well catered for with Shakespeare's Globe and The National Theatre Nearby.
