For hip bars and pubs, cross the River Lee and make the short walk to Hackney Wick, the capital's coolest post-industrial hangout.

In less than a 15 minutes, you can be gazing at the finest works from one of Britain's best loved 19th-century artists. The William Morris Gallery is located in Walthamstow, north east London, in sumptuous Grade II listed architecture and extensive parkland. The gallery, which was Musuem of the year in 2013, houses prints, fabrics, rugs, stained and glass and painted tiles by the Arts and Crafts master along with many of his contemporaries.
