Pay a pilgrimage to Penny Lane in down-to-earth Dingle

The Liverpool suburb of Dingle is a must for music-lovers - no stay is complete without paying homage to Penny Lane right on the doorstep. The Beatles single Penny Lane was inspired by the street where John Lennon and Paul McCartney used to meet to catch the bus. Today it's also well worth a visit for a host of eateries. And if you love the Beatles, the National Trust offers a guided tour of Lennon and McCartney's childhood including a visit to Lennon's home Mendips, about a quarter of an hour away.

Lively Liverpool

With fantastic galleries, museums, bars, cafes and shopping there's plenty to do in Liverpool. Albert Dock is a good place to start with the award-winning Beatles Story plus Mattel Play for younger visitors. Lots of city pubs offer a great atmosphere for catching a football game or you can try for the real thing at Anfield or Goodison Park.

Serene Sefton Park

If you fancy some peace and quiet there's no better place to head than Sefton Park, a Green Flag awarded 235 acres of parkland open all year round.
