Scenic race days at Ripon Racecourse

Set in beautiful North Yorkshire countryside, Ripon Racecourse is so good looking it's known as the garden racecourse. A few minutes from the elegant market town of Ripon, this is a family course holding flat race days through the season plus lots of other non-racing events such as a popular triathlon. Ripon Racecourse is home to the renowned William Hill Great St Wilfrid Handicap held in August, and with a free meeting in May, it offers a great value day out for all the family.

Atmospheric abbey ruins

Nearby Fountains Abbey is the largest monastic ruin in Britain and an awe-inspiring sight. Run by the National Trust, the ruins are in the grounds of the equally lovely Georgian Studley Royal Water Garden. Ripon itself is well worth a visit. Admire the beautiful cathedral and wander round the cluster of old streets where you'll find independent shops and cafes. Got little ones needing to burn off some steam? Lightwater Valley Theme Park is only 15 minutes' drive away and has more than 40 rides for all ages.

Relax in the spa at Harrogate

The elegant Georgian spa town of Harrogate is around half an hour away by car. Have a look round the boutique shops before taking to the waters in one of the town's spas. For something different, try the Harrogate Turkish Baths and Health Spa, immaculately restored to their former Victorian splendour. Looking for a cheap hotel Near Ripon Racecourse?
