Getting away from it all in Wooler

The delightful town of Wooler is a popular getaway for walkers, being a stone's throw from the Northumberland National Park and the Cheviot Hills where some of England's best walking country can be found. It's also only half an hour's drive from Bamburgh Castle and the beautiful Northumberland coastline. The town itself has lots of independent shops including a butcher and delicatessen. The Good Life Shop is great for cheese and The Chocolate Box has a wonderful selection of old-fashioned sweets. If golf's your thing there's a great value course in town, or if you're here for the walking try the route up to Yeavering Bell, where you'll find the remains of the region's oldest hill fort.

Lots to do at Ford & Etal

Around nine miles away Ford & Etal Estates is home to multiple attractions. History buffs will enjoy a trip to Flodden Battlefield or Heatherslaw Corn Mill is a great hands-on experience. You can also hire a bike here, go on a hack from Kimmerston Riding Centre, or see the countryside at a more leisurely pace on the Heatherslaw Light Railway.

Enjoying the stunning coastline

Majestic Bamburgh Castle overlooking its sands is a Northumberland 'must-see' and the Nearby Alnwick Castle is just as famous, particularly for fans of the Harry Potter films of which some scenes were shot here.
