A touch of magic at Alnwick Castle

The magnificent splendour of Alnwick Castle towers above the historic market town that takes its name, in the heart of the beautiful green Northumberland countryside around 45 minutes north of Newcastle. Crowds flock to the castle - still home to the Dukes of Northumberland - to see for themselves where some of the famous scenes in the Harry Potter films were made. Children will love the broomstick sessions, and the Dragon's Quest is sure to be a hit too. Visit the state rooms, have a go at medieval jousting, and stop for some Victorian-style fish and chips on site. Next door to the castle Alnwick Garden is also a popular attraction with its famous treehouse cafe a must-visit.

Book-lovers' heaven in Alnwick

The bustling market town of Alnwick is great for a wander. Nosey round the cobbled streets and check out some local history at Bailiffgate Museum and Gallery. Readers will adore a visit to Barter Books in an old railway station and one of the largest second hand bookshops in Britain.

Sweeping sands of Northumberland

Northumberland is renowned for its stunning wide sandy beaches and good surfing. The coast is very close, or around half an hour away is Bamburgh Castle Sands. Head down the coast from there and you'll find the rockpools round Seahouses great for little sea-explorers. Looking for accommodation Near Alnwick Castle?
