Nottingham Racecourse, Near the home of Robin Hood

Nottingham Racecourse is a flat racing course at Colwick Park just east of the city. With course fixtures including three listed races and the new Colwick Cup, this is a great place to enjoy the thrill of the horses with under-18s going free. You're within easy distance of Nottingham, with its atmospheric castle, bustling city centre, great shopping and eating, historic connections with the legendary Robin Hood plus Nottingham Greyhound Stadium just a few minutes away.

Take a trip down Nottingham's caves

Today's Nottingham Castle is a 17th century building on the original site, and as part of your visit you can go on a guided tour through the city's fascinating underground caves. Once outside take a selfie next to the statue of Nottingham hero Robin Hood. The city centre is easy to walk round or you can use the tram system. Nosey round the shops along Bridlesmith Gate or, if you fancy some exercise, head to the National Ice Centre which holds inexpensive public skating sessions. Hungry? For fine dining, try World Service Restaurant or Restaurant Sat Bains or head into the trendy Hockley area for a good selection of cheap cafes serving up tasty pizzas, tapas and Chinese food.

Hug an ancient tree in Sherwood Forest

Sherwood Forest is around 50 minutes' drive away. Admire the beautiful ancient trees in the forest and head to Sherwood Pines Forest Park for tree-related fun including the popular Go Ape Tree Top Adventure course.
