Things to do in and around Penistone

One of the Pennines' best kept secrets, Penistone is the highest market town in the country. Visit the Penistone Viaduct, a Grade II listed structure - find your way to the park that lies beneath it, and enjoy views of the river, walk in the woods, or simply sit and enjoy a picnic on the large grassy area.

There's loads to do for free in and around Penistone. Just eight miles away is the National Coal Mining Museum, a unique day out offering exciting experiences alongside genuine insight into the working lives of miners through history. Visit the Yorkshire Sculpture Park - 500 acres of historic parkland populated with 80 contemporary sculptures. Or spend the day at Cannon Hall Museum and Park Gardens, a stunning Georgian country house museum set in 70 acres of historic parkland and beautiful landscaped gardens, perfect for a relaxing walk, picnic or family games.

The kids will love Cannon Hall Farm, a family-run farm attraction that's home to hundreds of animals as well as one of the biggest and best equipped playgrounds in the north of England.
