Sporting prowess at the University of Sunderland

You're in the heart of the lively city of Sunderland at the university's main campus, but also close to the coast if you want to blow away a few cobwebs during your visit.

The campus is home to a leading pharmacy school and new school of nursing, while the CitySpace complex offers world-class sports facilities. Olympic athlete-turned-commentator Steve Cram became the university's chancellor in 2008.

Shop for bargains at The Bridges

The university is just across the road from the Bridges Shopping Centre, where the 90 stores include high-street favourites as well as more specialised shops. From Debenhams and Next to Kiko Cosmetics and Footasylum, it's all here.

The Bridges often hosts special student events, and is also home to Jacky White's indoor market. Find everything from fruit and veg to vintage jewellery.

Watch in awe at the National Glass Centre

See a master glassblower at work at this top Sunderland attraction as you discover how glass first arrived in Britain and marvel at the latest glass and ceramic art from some of the world's top artists and new designers studying at the centre. You can even walk on the glass roof - just don't look down if you're scared of heights.
