April Family Events for Ages 2 and Up

Easter is coming and spring is in the air. What better time to get active with your whole family? There are plenty of fun family events taking place around the country this April. Here’s our pick of a few of the best:

1. Puppet Animation Festival

20 March – 18 April, Around Scotland

With films, workshops and performances in towns and small communities throughout Scotland, this family-friendly festival offers over 150 events from the world of puppetry and animation. 2015 promises to be as fun-packed as ever. Catch a stop-animation workshop in Edinburgh from 11th-12th April or find out more about The Secret Life of Suitcases with a puppetry performance in Aberdeen on 14th April. Book a room at our Edinburgh Central Travelodge for a creative family getaway.

2. Sensory Story Time with Guess How Much I Love You

4 – 5 April, London

Enjoy the art of telling and sharing stories with the whole family at the Discovery Children’s Story Centre in Stratford. At 11am on 4th-5th April the classic children’s book Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney is being brought to life in a sensory story time version narrated by Vanessa Wolf. Suitable for ages 2-5.

3. LSO Discovery Family Concert: Heroes and Legends

9 April, London

This high-energy family concert at the Barbican in London encourages audience members to bring along their own instruments and to get involved by singing along. The music is inspired by the lives of a variety of characters and legends, including Merlin the famous wizard. Bring along a Merlin-inspired drawing for a chance to have it projected as part of the show. Our Travelodge Aldgate East is just a short walk away.

4. Tin Men and The Telephone Family Show

11 April, Gateshead

Be entertained by the musical Dutch trio that are bringing original comedy to children’s performance. If you have a smartphone you can download the app and let your family members influence the action, becoming part of the hour-long show. Because the show’s interactive, each performance is different. Complete the evening with a stay at our Travelodge Gateshead.

5. Hay Bike Fest

24-27 April, Hay-on-Wye

Head to the great outdoors to take part in the Hay Bike Fest. Bring your own two wheels or hire bikes and take part in family slalom races, proficiency sessions and gentle leisure rides through the beautiful surrounding areas. It’s the perfect way to show the kids the wonders of this lush part of Wales.
