May Weekend at Brands Hatch

Under 13s get in free, so if you’re introducing the next generation to the beauty of motorsports, this event is a steal.

When

Taking place on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th May, this Bank Holiday tradition is a popular date on the calendar of motorsports enthusiasts across Britain. With multi-driver and historic F1 races, plus a separate kids’ play area, it’s easy to see why.

So why don’t you start planning your rubber burning, adrenaline pumping, wheel-gripping weekend now and stay in our Dartford Travelodge? We promise you won’t regret it, especially after this guide has whet your whistle!

Get your heart racing on the track

This year’s festival features three top class races that you will not want to miss.

The first is the FIA Masters Historic Formula One Championship, a walk (well, rev) down memory lane that includes cars from the likes of McLaren, Tyrell, Lotus and Arrows. It’s all about the legendary mean machines that reigned over the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s.

Next up are the FIA Masters Historic Sports Cars, featuring the great and good of endurance racing that have graced Le Mans. And will burn up the Grand Prix track before your eyes. You’ll be meters away from some of the most beautiful cars ever made. Expect plenty of Lola T70s and Ford GT40s, among others.

Finally, 2015’s festival will also feature the Super Touring Car Trophy, where vehicles from 1970 to 1999 take to the famous Brands Hatch track and steal your breath away.

But if that hasn’t convinced you, there’s more.

Best of the rest

There will also be plenty of four-wheeled wonders around the festival for you to take a closer look at. From saloons to sports cars and everything in between (including F1) there’s something for everyone.

Look out for the Gentleman Drivers, a race of pre-1966 Jaguar E-Types that will have you rooting through your vintage car mags back at home.

And for more homegrown motor action, don’t miss the Pre-1966 Touring Cars race where the Minis take on America’s Fords and more.

Add car clubs from all over the country, a motoring-themed adventure playground for the kids, and go-karting based on a miniature version of the actual Brands Hatch track and you’ve got the ingredients for a great weekend.

So what are you waiting for? Put the pedal to the metal and book a room in our Dartford Travelodge today!
