Illuminasia Blackpool: Kids’ Delight

Terracotta Army in lights at Blackpool Illuminasia

Blackpool is well known for its spectacular light shows and family-friendly entertainment: the Golden Mile, the Pleasure Beach and the world-famous Tower, just to name a few. But if you look a little deeper into this much-loved seaside town, you’ll discover another extremely impressive feat of creativity. It’s a project so grand that something its size has never been attempted before.

The new must-see light show

Illuminasia is the world’s largest indoor illumination show. Housed in the Olympia venue at the Winter Gardens, Illuminasia was created by 56 highly skilled artisans from Zigong, China. The spectacle uses an incredible 35,000 custom-made lights. With the construction taking a painstaking three months to complete, and with a total of 20,000 sq ft of fine silk used, it’s taken love and dedication to bring this adventurous dream to life.

Blackpool Illuminations

Blackpool has a long and rich history when it comes to light displays. The town was one of the first in the world to use electric street lamps, which led to Blackpool’s world famous Illuminations display. The Blackpool Illuminations has decorated the seafront and Golden Mile since 1879, and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to the town each year. But Illuminasia offers a whole new experience. This is an indoor spectacular that tells the story of our fascination with light and colour.

Illuminasia is separated into six rooms, or Zones, for you to explore. As you weave your way through, you won’t believe the intricate sculptures all around you are made from fine silk.

Mysteries of China

First, you’re faced with the impressive and imposing Terracotta Army in The Mysteries of China, where you will learn where our fascination with light manipulation first began.

Blackpool history

Next, the family discovers Blackpool’s history with a scale reconstruction of the town, and sees how the Illuminations helped make the resort such an iconic holiday destination.

Stars, giant bugs and forests

An interactive tour of the solar system leads you to the magical Land Of The Giants, followed by The Deep and the Dark Zone. This is where the handcrafted creations really come to life! Kids will love the oversized, theatrical forest of bugs, exotic crustaceans and gigantic animals. Illuminasia is the perfect family-friendly experience, but the Land Of The Giants is a place where children’s imaginations can really run wild, in true adventurer style.

Wonders of the World in lights

In the final room, you and the family find yourselves immersed in the Wonders of the World. You’ll encounter some of the planet’s most iconic landmarks: the Statue of Liberty, the Sphinx and, of course, our very own Blackpool Tower standing 54 ft high. They’ve all been given the unique Illuminasia treatment.

The Wonders of the World is also the setting for the show’s finale: a spectacular interactive laser show, which brings your visit to an impressive end. The Glo-bots are not to be missed!

Come visit

Illuminasia has only been open a few months, but it’s already attracted thousands through its doors. And with good reason.

The fantasy and theatrics of the show make it the perfect mix of traditional and modern, and this just adds another colourful string to the town’s bow. Blackpool is famed for its family-friendly fun and entertainment, but the chances are you will have never seen anything quite like Illuminasia before. Book into a Blackpool Travelodge and get on with the show.
