1. The Holly Bush, Hampstead
A favourite for many Londoners, this traditional English pub offers a real wood fire alongside a delicious seasonal menu from the restaurant. Best of all it’s a short walk from the Heath, making it the perfect place to warm up after a brisk walk.
2. Clapton Hart, Clapton
Another pub that offers a real fire, this old-time East End pub is full of character and charm, from the quirky recycled pianos used as tables for two to the old chimney smokestack turned into one of the best date spots in East London. The Clapton Hart is growing in popularity all the time, so it’s a great place to people-watch.

4. Black Lion, Hammersmith
Sit back in a leather bound chair, grab a Scrabble board and relax at this pub on the banks of the River Thames. The Black Lion offers a mouthwatering Sunday roast and the staff are usually warm and welcoming. There’s a great beer garden here too, although the fire is pretty irresistible at this time of year.
5. Spaniard’s Inn, Hampstead
Another Hampstead offering, this London pub manages to feel more like a village local. Old wooden floors and exposed beams create a gorgeous cosy atmosphere. Perfect for a Sunday lunch by the fire as you sip on one of the guest ales. Be warned though, the prices reflect the area and are a little more than your average local. As it’s close to the Heath it’s also dog friendly.
6. The Owl and Pussycat, Redchurch Street
Old World pub charm meets hipster Shoreditch in this vintage-style pub with a welcoming fireplace and comfortable armchairs to snuggle up in. Expect to be surrounded by arty East Londoners as you get stuck into a hearty modern pub menu featuring the likes of sweet potato and red quinoa burgers.
