Spring is finally blooming all around us and it’s time to celebrate the arrival of longer days, brighter weather and all things outdoors. Of course, Britain is Britain and nice weather is never guaranteed, but these events should leave you feeling suitably springy and ready to face the rest of the year.

1. Egg Rolling

Egg rolling dates back to the Victorian age and was traditionally done with hard boiled, hand decorated eggs. Making your own can be an extremely fun indoors activity, with or without children. However, if you would rather leave the creativity to somebody else, chocolate eggs are a yummy alternative. One of the best egg rolling events in the country takes place in Preston at Avenham Park, during Easter Monday, from 10am until 4pm. Staying at a nearby Travelodge can extend the one day event into a fun Easter weekend away.

2. The Great Spring Gardening Event

The Great Spring Gardening Event will take place on the 30th of April this year, at Hampton Court Castle. Run by the Red Cross, expect a day of browsing garden stalls and nibbling on tea and cake in the garden marquees. This event is a great option if you are wary of the weather and want somewhere to shelter if it decides to rain. Children and history lovers will also love exploring the Castle, which was the home of Henry VIII.
