Top Summer Food Festivals

An exhibition of vegetables at rural fair in city Annecy

We may not be world-renowned for our cuisine, but really the UK is a country full of foodies. The summer is the time when we really show it, with food festivals all over the British Isles. If you’re looking to book a weekend away, why not centre it around an event where you know there’ll be all sorts of delicious goodies to try? Here are some of the top food festivals of this summer:

The spiciest

Chilli Fest UK runs spicy events all over the country, and on the 24th of August, they’ll be organising The Great Eastleigh Chilli Festival. The event, which will take place on the Leigh Road Recreation Ground, is free for all, and promises to heat up even the hardiest of chilli eaters. Come try hot sauces, hot dips, chilli jams, pickles, chutneys, chilli cheese, and even chilli cocktails or chilli beer. There will also be chilli merchandise, chilli seeds and chilli plants on sale. Stay in our Eastleigh Central hotel to be within walking distance of the festival and within easy reach of all Southampton has to offer.

The fishiest

Don’t worry – there’s nothing suspicious about Newlyn Fish Festival, but as its title might suggest, it’ll be packed full of seafood. With live cooking demonstrations, lots to taste, a full seafood auction and even a fish display made from the creatures of the Cornwall sea, this festival promises to impress even the most experienced of fishermen. The live entertainment will keep the kids amused too. Head to Cornwall for the last full weekend in August and stay in our Hayle hotel to enjoy the best of the seaside summer.

The smelliest

You really can’t get more pungent than 25,000 people eating garlic at once. You’re in luck if you typically don’t have garlic breath once you’ve eaten garlic yourself, otherwise The Garlic Festival on the Isle of Wight in the middle of August might not be bearable! As it turns out, it’s actually a whole lot of fun, with the unusual mixture of late sixties pop festival ambience, country fair stalls and garlic cuisine. Book a room in our Newport Isle of Wight hotel to experience the unique event for yourself.

The cheesiest

No need to fake smiles at the Big Cheese Festival in Caerphilly – just enjoy the tasty Caerphilly cheese and the happiness it brings you. In fact, anyone will enjoy themselves at the weekend long affair at the end of July in the grounds of Caerphilly castle. Quite apart from the cheese, there will be over 50 Welsh food producers showing their goods, and entertainment including street entertainers, re-enactments, music, a traditional funfair, folk dancing, falconry, minstrels, and much more. Book a room in our Caerphilly hotel to join in the fun!

The rowdiest

With more than 800 types of real ale, cider and perry on offer and 55,000 expected visitors, you can be sure that The Great British Beer Festival will be far from peaceful. But book to stay in our London Fulham hotel for the weekend and you can guarantee you’ll have a whale of a time. If you’re feeling a little out of your depth, surrounded by all those beer nerds, you can always opt to join one of the tutored tastings that will teach you all you need to know.
