February family events around the UK

There are plenty of events to keep the family entertained this winter, so button up, grab a scarf and head off on a big adventure. Here are some of our favourite family events coming up this February:

1. Astronomy Photographer of the Year in London

Entertain the space enthusiasts and science lovers in your family by heading to the Royal Observatory Greenwich to see the winning images from Astronomy Photographer of the Year. This free exhibition features incredible images of outer space and our own galaxy, including beautiful star trails and aurorae. It’s running until 25th June. Make a full weekend out of it and enjoy the beautiful neighbourhood of Greenwich, including the market and the famous Cutty Sark tea clipper. Finish it off with a stay at one of our hotels in Greenwich so you haven’t got far to go to find a comfortable bed.

2. The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show at the Norwich Playhouse

Head to the Norwich Playhouse from 11th -13th February to see this popular children’s story come to life on stage. Adapted from the book by author and illustrator Eric Carle, the live stage version features a collection of 75 lovable puppets and is suitable for children aged 3+.

3. Pancake Day in London

The 28th February is Shrove Tuesday, best known in the UK as Pancake Day. There are plenty of places to tuck into some sweet treats and even to flip a few frying-pan creations yourself. In London you’ll find a series of pancake races, where business people, sportsmen and even MPs compete at obstacles courses to raise money for charity. Head to Victoria Tower Gardens at 10am to see the Houses of Parliament take on members of the press.

And to try some of the best pancakes in town, make a booking at the famous My Old Dutch restaurant in Holborn for delicious creations, including classics like lemon and sugar and more unusual offerings like chilli con carne with sour cream and tortilla chips.

4. North West Puddle Jumping Championships at the Martin Mere Wetland Centre

The Puddle Championships are all about creating the biggest, craziest splash possible, and from Saturday 11th – Sunday 19th February, little ones can do just that.
Puddles are set up in the morning, so you can get some practice in and from 2pm the competition starts. It’s 50p to enter and jumps will be judged on a variety of skills including: “The enthusiasm of the jumper” , “The creativity of the jump” and most importantly “The height of the splash.”
Be nearby the action and stay in a hotel near Stockport.
