UK trips to treat your mum

Mother’s Day is the perfect time to show our mums just how much we love them and there are lots of amazing places in the UK where you can show her you appreciation

1. Visit Cheltenham for laidback shopping

Where better to take mum for a soothing weekend away than the beautiful spa town of Cheltenham? A walk along the Promenade is the ideal start to the trip, followed by a spot of lunch at The Vine, a cosy Victorian pub with excellent Thai food.

Then, in the afternoon you can treat your mum (and maybe yourself) to a bit of retail therapy. It’s easy as wishing to lose yourself in the independent boutiques of Montpellier. Look out for the Greek-inspired sculptures along the walk! Finish your first day with dinner in one of the cool restaurants in The Suffolks.

Want to sort out your weekend right now? Book a room in our Cheltenham Travelodge and you’re all set for the weekend of the 09th March.

2. Experience the heart of Yorkshire at Harrogate

If your mum loves to experience a bit of the high life, but also likes to live by the motto “variety is the spice of life”, then the Victorian spa town of Harrogate is the perfect place to bring her on a mother’s day break away. As well as a rich 200 year history of relaxing spa experiences and revitalising treatments, you can also take your mum for a spot of shopping. With an eclectic mix of popular high street names, luxury brands and quaint independent stores to choose from she’ll be spoilt for choice.

Harrogate is also known for its art and cultural scene, with theatres and festivals going on all throughout the year. In the centre of Harrogate, and in the towns surrounding it such as Ripon, Masham and Knaresborough there are music, theatre and art shows that both you and your mum can enjoy together.

3. Soak up the culture of lively Liverpool

The birthplace of the Beatles and a former European City of Culture – what’s not to like about Liverpool? There’s loads to do, from visiting The Beatles Story – a trip through the careers of the Fab Four – to Pre-Raphaelite art and contemporary photography at the Walker Art Gallery. If mum loves a view, take her on the 50-minute Mersey Ferry ride for the most scenic way to see the city.

Our pick for food would be Maray, a lovely little ‘small plates’ restaurant specialising in falafel and cocktails that certainly boasts the personal touch. Check out our central Liverpool Travelodge for a super-convenient place to stay.

3. Head to Bath for a little luxury

Pulteney Bridge, Bath

A glorious city that looks like something out of a period drama, Bath is the ideal destination for a classy Mother’s Day getaway. Why not visit Britain’s only natural thermal spa at Thermae Bath Spa for a bit of R&R before seeing how the Romans did it at the famous Roman Baths. Then head off to the Jane Austen Museum to dip into the writer’s life and times. And no trip to Bath would be complete without afternoon tea. There are a number of lace-and-scones locations, but our choice would be the elegant Bath Spa Hotel.  Read about more things to do in Bath.

So what are you waiting for? Book a hotel in Bath today and give your mum a Mother’s Day to remember!
