Museums at Night from Bristol to Wakefield

Ever been too busy with work to get to that show? Wish galleries were open later? You’re in luck. From 13th to 16th May, museums across the country open their doors late into the evening for Museums at Night.

This biannual event is your ultimate chance to catch exhibits after hours and get involved in some intriguing happenings.

1. Knebworth House, Stevenage

On the 14th and 15th of May, the beautiful house, park and gardens of Knebworth open their doors for a ghost tour and bat walk. At over 500 years old, Knebworth House, originally home of the Lytton family , is a fascinating location for lovers of the supernatural.

The evening is for those aged 16 and over and tickets cost £22, including a delicious soup, sandwich and hot beverage. Arrive by 18.45 to be amazed by spooky stories and get in touch with your nature loving side on the bat walk.

Our Hatfield Travelodge is nearby, so there’s no need to worry about getting home after the event.

2. Theatre Collection, University of Bristol

Theatre lovers won’t want to miss this free event at The University of Bristol. It’s open to visitors of all ages too.

With curator-lead tours that run between 18.00 and 20.15 on the 13th May, this is a must-take chance to dip into their rich collection that’s one of the world’s largest archives of British theatre history and live art.

3. Manchester Museum, Manchester

Roam Manchester Museum at night on the 14th May for an evening of Brighter Sounds.

This free event brings together Jason Singh (who you may know from the BBC and music festivals) and guitarist Giuliano Modarelli. They’ll perform music inspired by the museum’s collections and India’s Warli artists.

Running from 18.00 to 21.00, the event also lets you trip through the museum halls after hours.

4. Victoria Gallery and Museum, Liverpool

Travel to Liverpool to enjoy a Gothic night of magic at the Victoria Gallery and Museum.

On the 15th May, performance troupe Impropriety takes visitors on a journey to the unknown, talking guests through the history and exhibitions of the beautiful building and weaving an intriguing, magical tale.

Performance tours start at 17.00 and last half an hour. The gallery advises that you book ahead, although all events are free of charge and open to all ages.

5. Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Wakefield

Visit the Yorkshire Sculpture Park on the 16th May between 17.00 and 21.00 for a series of events including a Twilight Lake Walk, Moore’s Mysteries, and Seizure 2008/2013 After Hours. This event is unmissable for art lovers and a chance to see a range of breathtaking work in a beautiful setting.

Events are open to all ages and only cost between £4 and £6. There’s also free parking from 17.00.
