The little town with big ambitions

The small Bedfordshire town of Ampthill has been put on the map in recent years by its annual AmpRocks festival, part of the town's larger cultural festival. Despite its small size it's hosted some big-name headliners - The Fratellis, Razorlight, The Happy Mondays and Toploader have all appeared in recent years. The boutique festival is definitely one of the town's biggest draws, but it has much else to offer besides - not least its beautiful, sweeping English countryside.

Out and about at Greensand Ridge

The Greensand Ridge Walk and Greensand Cycle Way both pass through Ampthill and take in some stunning views. The Ridge Walk in particular offers a great way to get in the midst of the area's flora and fauna, which are both in abundance, while the cycle route is ideal for those wishing to feel the Bedfordshire wind in their hair.

Bring the binoculars

Speaking of wildlife, Cooper's Hill Nature Reserve is close by and comprises over 18 hectares of heathland, marshland and woodland - all of which has been granted Site of Special Scientific Interest status, and features a broad range of species. Planning a trip to Ampthill? Travelodge Bedford Marston Moretaine hotel is just five miles away on the A421.
